The Centre for Law and Society of Gujarat National Law University invites research papers on the following themes:
Call for Papers for the Annual Legal Services Forum, 2019
The GNLU Legal Services Committee, functioning under the aegis of the Centre for Law and Society invites research papers for the 4th GNLU Annual Legal Services Forum, 2019. The papers are invited on the following themes:
A. Right to Healthcare
B. Redefining the Best Interests of the Child
C. Relationship between Minorities and the State
D. Right to Healthy Environment
Note: The research paper must address only one of the four themes specified hereinabove. Authors may address one or more of the sub-themes specified under each theme in their paper.

A. Right to Healthcare
- Interface between medical law and ethics
- Framework for health insurance cover
- Framework for a digital healthcare system
- The role of law in facilitating access to Palliative Care
- The viability of Mental Health Courts in India
B. Redefining the Best Interests of the Child
- Efficacy of child friendly procedures contained within penal laws relating to children
- Finding a space for children within the Trafficking of Persons (Prevention, Protection and Rehabilitation) Bill, 2018
- Debating the inadequacy of the UNCRC to regulate interests of the child in the digital age
- Framework of rights for orphan children in India
- Combating delinquency and crime among foster children
- Reviewing the safety of children in light of POCSO Act, 2012
C. Relationship between Minorities and the State
- Feasibility of a separate anti-lynching law for India
- The changing nature & foreseeable future of the demand for reservation by communities in India
- Women’s right to worship in nexus with access to public places of worship
- Rights of minorities.
D. Right to Healthy Environment
- Impact of the environmental degradation on vulnerable communities
- The law and economics of governance pertaining to preservation of the environment
- Lacunae in enforcement mechanisms arising from environmental laws in India
- Role of Peoples’ Movements in effecting change in environmental policy
- Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Protection
- Migration as an outcome of degradation of environment
Note: The research paper must address only one of the four themes specified hereinabove. Authors may address one or more of the sub-themes specified under each theme in their paper.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
PRIZES
- Participation is invited from students enrolled bona-fide on a regular basis in any undergraduate/ postgraduate course or its equivalent conducted by any recognized college/ university/ institution in India or any SAARC nation.
- Only one submission per author shall be entertained.
- Co-authorship by a maximum of 2 students is permitted.
- Every paper must be written from the perspective of law and the objective of the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 in line with the topic chosen.
IMPORTANT NOTE
- Full papers are due on 15th March 2019 .
- Five entries per theme shall be shortlisted for presentations to be scheduled for 5 and 6 April 2019 at the 4th GNLU Annual Legal Services Forum, 2019. More entries may be selected at the discretion of the Organising Committee.
- Authors whose entries are shortlisted shall be intimated of their selection for presentation via e-mail by the ..... . Authors of the shortlisted entries shall receive certificate of paper presentation subject to them personally presenting the paper at the Annual Forum.
- A payment link shall be sent to shortlisted candidates in the last week of December. All payments must be completed by ...... .
- Authors selected for paper presentation shall pay registration fee of INR 1500 each (inclusive of GST charges), which shall not include accommodation charges. However, the fee shall be inclusive of meals at the University per person for each day of the Forum.
- In case of co-authors, total registration fee shall be INR 2000 (inclusive of GST charges). A co-author shall not be given any certificate of merit or that of presentation if he/she does not personally present the paper at the Annual Forum.
- The papers shall be shortlisted by the Editorial Board constituted by the GNLU Centre for Law and Society.
- The shortlisted papers shall be judged on the following criteria:
- Understanding of the Theme and the Sub-theme
- Quality of Research
- Originality/Creativity
- Language, Grammar and Style
- Organization, Structure and Clarity of Expression
- Quality and Viability of Recommendations/Suggestions
- The Panelists for each theme at the Forum shall serve as the Panel of Evaluators for their respective theme to select the Best Paper under that theme. The Overall Best Paper shall be selected based on the highest score thus awarded.
GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION
- The paper must be authored in English only.
- The paper should be the original work of the author(s). Plagiarized entries and paper(s) published elsewhere or selected/ submitted for publication elsewhere shall be rejected.
- The name(s) of the author(s) if mentioned anywhere in the paper will be subject to disqualification.
- The word limit shall be 3000 – 5000 words, not including footnotes.
- The paper should be typed in: Times New Roman, Font Size 12 and Line Spacing 1.5.
- The footnotes must be typed in: Times New Roman, Font Size 10 and Line Spacing 1.
- The margins should be 1” or 2.54 cm on all sides.
- All text should be justified.
- Every citation must follow the Harvard Bluebook, 20th edition.
SUBMISSION PROCEDURE
- The entries must be sent by email to [email protected] with the subject ‘GALSF 2019 Research Paper Submission’.
- The body of the e-mail must specify the name(s) of the author(s).
- The paper may be attached in ‘.doc’ or ‘.docx’ format.
- The participants are required to send the following details in a separate word document attached to the e-mail:
- Theme Chosen
- Title of the Paper
- Name(s) of the Author(s)
- College/ Institute/ University of Author(s)
- Programme Enrolled In & Year of Study of Author(s)
- E-mail address & Contact No. of Author(s)
PRIZES
- The authors of all papers shortlisted for presentation, and who personally present the paper during the Forum shall be awarded Certificates of Participation.
- The author(s) of the ‘Best Paper’ under each theme will be awarded a Certificate of Merit.
- The author(s) of the ‘Overall Best Paper’ will be awarded a Certificate of Merit and a Trophy.
